Deccan Chargers v Pune Warriors India IPL at Hyderabad Preview and Tips

Suneer Chowdhary - 10 May 2011
Deccan Chargers will take on the Pune Warriors India in the 53rd game of the Indian Premier League at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Hyderabad. It is a home game for the Chargers, but given their form at home, it does not really matter.

Deccan v Pune odds:
Both the sides, Deccan and Pune have won three out of their ten games. Essentially this translates into a simple fact – the losing team in this game will be sent packing from the tournament while the side winning will hold on to the chances by the skin of their teeth. Coral offers 4/5 for Deccan to win this one while the Warriors go in at 1/1 at BetFred for their win.

Ground and Pitch:
The game will be played at Hyderabad, where the ball has usually come on to the bat and made life much easier for the batsmen. Both sides have generally struggled with their batting and Hyderabad will provide them with a good chance to overcome the travails.

Player News:
Pune continue to puzzle their fans by getting in Sourav Ganguly (5/1 at Boylesports) as a replacement in the squad bit not selecting him in the playing eleven. There are at least two others in the playing eleven that he could replace.

The good news, however, is that the management has finally seen the wisdom in playing Callum Ferguson (6/1 at bet365) and after his unbeaten innings last game, will get another go. On the other hand it was a wise call to have Robin Uthappa (9/2 at Boylesports) and Yuvraj Singh (9/2 at BetFred) bat at the number three and four positions in the batting order, allowing them a longer time at the crease.

At the other end, Deccan Chargers made their efforts to overcome their batting woes. Future captain or not, Cameron White (6/1 at bet365) was discarded in favour of JP Duminy (9/2 at Boylesports), who went on to crash an impressive half-century in the Delhi game. Kumar Sangakkara (11/4 at Stan James) had earlier laid the foundation with a 40 but before he leaves the Indian shores to join his Sri Lankan side, he will hope to get a big one in.

The Chargers will also need to get Sunny Sohal (10/1 at bet365) back to the top of the innings.

Prediction:
Pune has a stronger batting line-up than the Chargers and with the captain getting their batting line-up right, one would have to give the Warriors a better chance of winning this one.
