Angry Ganguly lashes out at Kolkata's performances

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, Sourav Ganguly, has lashed out at his team for the below-par performance in the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy. Bangalore easily beat the Kolkata side thanks to Rahul Dravid and Robin Uthappa’s half centuries.

Ganguly had been critical of his Indian wards and said that the manner in which the team played in the game against Bangalore, they do not deserve to be in the semi-finals. Ganguly also called the performance “absolutely rubbish” and said that with the entire world watching the performance, and most importantly, with the selectors watching the guys play, “if they play like this, God help their careers.”

Ganguly also said that while he did not mind losing, it is the manner in which the side performed that mattered, and so far, “we were pathetic on the field”

Ganguly said that he could not go and bowl or field for others in the side. He added, “When I was leading India I had some serious talent to look after. That probably helped. Hopefully, these guys will look after themselves.”

Kolkata are currently precariously placed in the points table. They have ten points from 11 games, which is the same as Chennai and Deccan, and all three sides are languishing at the bottom of the table behind Delhi, Bangalore and Rajasthan – all with 12 points. Mumbai Indians have already qualified for the semi-finals with 16 points, and all the remaining teams apart from Punjab are currently fighting for the three other spots.

The top four sides in the tournament will play in the semi-finals of the tournament, and the top three sides at the end of the tournament will go on to play the Champions League T20.

Mumbai Indians continue to remain favourites to win the tournament, with Bet365 offering 9/4 for their triumph. Despite Delhi’s loss to bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab, Ladbrokes offers 7/2 for Delhi to win the tournament, whereas Bangalore is at 4/1 (Blue Square). The confusion around who the four semi-finalists will be is so grave that the fourth favourites at this stage is Chennai and they are at 10/1 (Stan James) to go through to their third successive semi-final and go on to lift the trophy.
