The Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first. They managed to restrict the Punjab team to 158 in the 20 overs, yet may have tested the opponents under the conditions on another day.

In reply, West Indian skipper Chris Gayle tore the Punjabi bowling with four massive sixes. Before the rain came down, Kolkata was 79/1 in the tenth over and the par score at that stage was 68.

Brendon McCullum was the only batsman out for the Knight Riders.
